Dodge Ram Catalytic Converter Scrap Price: Hemi and Cummins Values

A Dodge Ram catalytic converter scraps for anywhere from $5 to $610 as of 21 August 2026, and the single biggest fork is gasoline versus Cummins diesel. The 6.7 Cummins NOx adsorbent converter stamped 2196AAP is the top payer in the Ram line at $600–$610. Gasoline Ram 1500 units are far more ordinary, landing in the $89–$266 Large Chrysler band or lower.

The numbering system and grading rules that cover all of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram are set out in the Mopar family overview. This page covers the Ram trucks specifically.

Ram diesel part numbers with published prices

Ram is unusual because the Cummins diesel units actually have public per-part pricing. Most converters get quoted by grade. These get quoted by number.

Part number Component Published price Application
2196AAP Diesel converter / NOx adsorbent $600–$610 6.7 Cummins
3673AAC Diesel converter $500 6.7 Cummins
2196ABP Diesel converter $410 6.7 Cummins
Combo converter Combined DOC and DPF assembly $260 Later 6.7 Cummins
2198AAP Diesel particulate filter $250 6.7 Cummins
Wire or foil converter Foil substrate unit $100 Various
7113AAP Diesel particulate filter $60 6.7 Cummins
0656AAP Listed with no value $0 Various

The 2196AAP price is quoted two ways by the same buyer. ConverterGuys lists $600 on its Dodge Cummins summary page and $610 on the dedicated 2196AAP page. That is a $10 spread from one source, reported here rather than averaged. These prices are attached to 2007–2013 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 litre engine.

dpfRecycler confirms the same part families and adds numbers not carried by ConverterGuys. It groups 2196AAP, 2196ABP, 3673AAC and 1557AAP as NOx adsorbent catalytic converters for the 6.7, and 7113AAP and 2198AAP as diesel particulate filters. Newer combination assemblies are listed as 023AA66367A, 0430200AC and 930AA66367A. dpfRecycler does not publish prices, stating that because of the volatile platinum group metal market all prices are issued by individual quote.

One hard limit worth knowing before you pull a truck apart: dpfRecycler does not buy selective catalytic reduction units at all. The SCR section of a modern Ram exhaust may be worth nothing to a converter buyer.

Ram 1500 gasoline units

Gasoline Ram 1500 converters do not have the same published per-part pricing. They get graded like any other domestic ceramic unit.

5.9 Magnum and 4.7 V8, 1994–2007

Older Ram 1500 units are mid-size ceramic converters with lighter washcoat loading than modern units. Realistically these fall into Regular Domestic Cat at $20–$136 or Small Domestic Cat at $21–$161. Some carry foil substrate, which drops them to $18–$78 for small foil and $67–$331 for large foil.

5.7 Hemi, 2003 onward

The Hemi is the gasoline Ram worth pulling. These trucks run larger ceramic converters, frequently two, and grade as Large Chrysler Cat at $89–$266 or High Grade Domestic at $65–$593. Rockaway prices Large Chrysler Cat at $92 each on 21 August 2026 and High Grade Domestic at $68 each on 19 August 2026, so the middle of those ranges is the realistic expectation, not the top.

Some Ram exhaust designs use long tubular converters that grade as Torpedo Cat. That grade carries an unusually wide published range of $110–$1,166. If your unit is a long cylinder rather than a flat oval, say so when you request a quote, because torpedo grading pays materially better than regular domestic.

Published Ram 2500 estimates

JunkyardInventory puts Dodge Ram 2500 converters at $200–$400 using May 2026 data. That figure sits between the gasoline grades and the diesel part prices above, which is consistent with a mixed sample of both fuel types. Treat it as a broad brand estimate rather than a quote for a specific unit.

Ram variant Engine Likely grade or part Realistic pay range
Ram 1500 5.9 Magnum / 4.7 V8 Regular or Small Domestic $20–$161
Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi Large Chrysler / High Grade Domestic $89–$593
Ram 1500 Any, tubular unit Torpedo Cat $110–$1,166
Ram 2500/3500 6.7 Cummins, 2007–2013 2196AAP / 3673AAC / 2196ABP $410–$610
Ram 2500/3500 6.7 Cummins DPF section 2198AAP / 7113AAP $60–$250
Ram 2500/3500 6.7 Cummins, later combo Combination assembly $260 published
Any Ram Any Aftermarket replacement $5

Why the DPF pays less than the converter

This trips up a lot of sellers. The DPF is usually the physically bigger, heavier piece on a Cummins truck, and it pays a fraction of what the converter ahead of it pays. Compare 2196AAP at $600–$610 against 7113AAP at $60. Same truck. Ten to one.

The reason is chemistry, not size. Gasoline converters are three-way units carrying platinum, palladium and rhodium together. Diesel systems lean platinum-heavy in the oxidation catalyst, and the particulate filter is largely a ceramic trap for soot and ash that may carry little to no recoverable precious metal. A small high-grade petrol converter can beat a larger diesel unit, because internal chemistry rather than exterior dimensions determines recoverable content.

ScrapMonster reinforces this in its August 2026 diesel systems guide. Weight alone is not reliable for pricing, because steel housings, insulation and filter mass dominate total weight rather than metal content. Platinum group metal loading varies by application, so verified part identification beats size-based estimates.

Telling the three diesel sections apart

  • Diesel oxidation catalyst. Sits upstream. Has temperature sensors. Oxidises carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons. This is the valuable one.
  • Diesel particulate filter. Identified by differential-pressure tubes and visible ceramic construction. Traps soot physically. Pays modestly.
  • Selective catalytic reduction. Downstream, with NOx sensors and a mixer section, and it uses diesel exhaust fluid. Frequently not purchased at all.

Rockaway grades generic Diesel Cat at $15 each with a $15–$477 range and DPF at $30 each across $9–$758. Those wide bands exist precisely because unidentified diesel units get graded conservatively. Producing a legible part number is what moves you from the bottom of the band toward the published Cummins prices.

Finding the number on a Ram unit

RRCats states Dodge serial numbers are typically marked on the side and are usually easy to find, though corrosion can make them unreadable. Documented examples include 2196ABP and 2198AAP. Dodge units also carry the Chrysler stamped triangle patterns near the edges, since the brands share a parent company. Check corners, under heat shields, and along the down pipe.

Metal prices behind the numbers

Metal 20 Jan 2026 19–20 Aug 2026 Relevance to Ram
Platinum $2,346/oz $1,793/oz Drives Cummins diesel unit value
Palladium $1,864/oz $1,299/oz Drives Hemi gasoline unit value
Rhodium $10,100/oz $8,550–$8,800/oz Gasoline only, negligible in diesel

The rhodium range is a real disagreement between sources on adjacent dates. Kitco quoted $8,550 on 19 August 2026; Trading Economics quoted $8,800 on 20 August 2026 and noted rhodium up 7.32 percent on the month and 17.73 percent on the year. Both are given rather than blended.

Because Cummins units track platinum and gasoline Hemi units track palladium and rhodium, the two halves of the Ram line do not move together. Platinum has held up better than palladium through 2026, which is part of why the diesel part prices still look strong against softer gasoline grades.

Practical notes for the yard

  • Separate the sections before quoting. A Cummins exhaust quoted as one lump gets priced like a DPF, not like a 2196AAP.
  • Clean the stamp. A wire brush over the side of the can is worth several hundred dollars on a diesel unit.
  • Do not gut the unit. Missing internal material collapses the grade.
  • Ask whether the buyer takes SCR. At least one major diesel recycler does not.
  • Expect roughly 25 to 35 percent of contained metal spot value after refining costs and losses, per IndexBox.
